The Technique
|

Since the 14th century until the 19th century, tapestries were
made by expert craftsmen on proper looms, with a manufacture completely
realized by hand.
With the introduction of power looms and of the Jacquard tecnique
of weaving, tapestry widely spread thanks to the automation: the low
costs of production let also many "middle class" houses display these
refined "Clothes of Arras".

Afterwards is described the production process, that starting from
the yarn, goes to the finished tapestry and Jacquard border.

The yarn is the primary element to manufacture every kind
of fabric.
It usually arrives in the factory on soft bobbins
that are later dyed in the colours needed for the production
of the fabric.
|
The bearing for the bobbins is holed to let the dye touch
every single fibre of yarn.

With a machine called winder the soft tapered cones
are turned in hard super conic bobbins, to let a better unwinding
of the threads in the following manufactures.
